Hedge End began as a small hamlet on Botley Common, home to seasonal strawberry pickers, and stayed that way until well into the twentieth century. Growth from the 1950s onward turned it into a sizeable town, and new estates, including recent development on former farmland near Grange Park, continue to add housing today.
